AFRICA COOPERATIVELY FIGHTS BACK AGAINST CORONAVIRUS DISEASE
The impacts of COVID-19 is no different in Africa than anywhere else in the world. Over 609,000 confirmed coronavirus cases have reported on the African continent - with more than 305,000 recoveries & 13,000 deaths. The major number of cases are from South Africa, followed by Nigeria and Ghana. In the soonest time after COVID-19 spread was declared a pandemic by WHO, Africa CDC took the most essential actions implementing the obligations and strategies with professional teams for high priority areas of coronavirus control. The surveillance, laboratory, diagnosis, infection prevention and controls had been already taken under consideration, and being followed.
In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Africa CDC is providing training to in-coming analysts for event-based surveillance by the means of the epidemic intelligence from the open-source platforms. This has been in execution to incorporate with the regional centres and member states to keep track of coronavirus related events and verify them. It will help the Member states get the critical information necessary for them to respond and implement control efforts accordingly.
For the same purpose 18 countries from the
African continent including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt,
Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mauritania, Nigeria, Niger, Zambia, Rwanda,
Sao Tome and Principe, South Africa, Tunisia and Zambia, came together to
enhance the precautionary measures for COVID-19 and save lives.
