Latest African Breaking News – DRC Imposing Covid-19 Preventive Restrictions
The Democratic Republic of Congo is planning to impose stricter coronavirus measures as a huge number of new cases have been filed in past few days. The government announced restrictions would start from Friday, 18 December, 2020 with a curfew from 21:00 to 05:00.
Other guidelines include school closing and public gatherings; the communications minister said schools would be closed earlier for the Christmas holidays and public gatherings of more than 10 people would not be allowed. There will also be a ban on family affairs, ceremonies before burials and other gatherings. Sports competitions will continue without fans. This was the latest breaking news broadcasted everywhere on air and television with a purpose making everyone aware of this.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded just over 14,000 covid cases and over 350 deaths due to Covid infection since the epidemic was officially declared in March. But now it has seen a steady rise in cases in recent weeks.
On past Wednesday dated 16 December, 345 new cases were registered, most of them are in the capital Kinshasa. While speaking to people, on the Monday, President Felix Tshisekedi came up with saying that the second wave is caused mostly by the importation of infection from foreign countries and the relaxation of precautionary measures.
